Sophia was originally designed as a facility to investigate techniques for sustainable dryland agriculture, with the explicit intent to share lessons learned, both through publication and through hands-on workshops and demonstrations. Over the past several years, we've focused on the research aspects of this, and in parallel developed a set of technologies for precision agriculture that have found their home at kensho.farm.
In 2019 we arrived at a point where we felt we'd collected enough data, learned enough lessons, and otherwise reached the activation energy needed to take Sophia to the next level, where it could truly start to perform its mission. Unfortunately, a death in the family and the attendant overhead precluded our doing so, and pushed our actual launch into 2020.
And so we find ourselves here, in early 2020, lighting the fuse on the final stage of a project started three years ago. Buckle up, it's going to be a fun ride!
